What is a Spinal Cord Injury?
Spinal Cord Injury is a damage in the Spinal Cord either permanently or temporarily, often caused as a result of a traumatic accident. The damage in the Spinal Cord usually translates into loss of motor and muscle function, sensation in parts of the body connected to the level of the lesion.
The degree of the severity correlates with the location at which the injury occurs. Anatomically, the human Spinal Cord is categorized into four parts starting from that located at the base of the neck down to lower back; called the Cervical, Lumbar, Thoracic, and Sacral respectively. The injuries can either be complete, meaning the Spinal Cord is entirely damaged, and an incomplete injury where patients could retain some motor functions in the body.
Depending on the level of severity, there are a variety of symptoms patients will experience, some of the which include loss of movements in the legs or both arms and legs, loss control over bladder and bowel movement, muscle atrophy, and many more.
Although many people deem Spinal Cord Injuries to be untreatable, Cellular Therapy especially via the LamiSpine Surgery has proven to alleviate several symptoms the patients might have.
