It was the two week mark and everyone was excited to sit with Isaac once again so he could tell us how things were going. We could already tell that our patient was looking and feeling better, so we jumped right into it.
How much progress had Isaac made in his therapy?
He started by discussing the most obvious topic, and the one that was on everyone’s mind, his ability to stand. He confidently told us about his progress using the parallel bars to stand up and, watching him actually do it, we saw the signs of the young athlete he very much still is. He was stronger, sturdier and kept up with his physical therapist’s instructions with relative ease. It was amazing to see.
He went on to tell us about improvements in sensation due in part to his therapy’s ability to increase his blood flow. He also mentioned his increased autonomic function, which he was very happy with.
A bit of my autonomic dysreflexia condition has been resolved, which is great. That’s the main reason I came to get this procedure done.”
So it seemed that like Isaac was still going strong and now that the initial jitters were gone, he was ready to get down to some serious therapy. Seeing the progress he’d made in just two short weeks got the whole team in a great mood, we felt like we had a personal stake in his journey to recovery.
There was still a long road ahead, and we had no doubt he would go above and beyond to ensure he got the most out of his rehabilitation.
