Last week, we introduced you to a Canadian-born man named Isaac. He sought out our treatment to help him regain motor function after a diving accident left him bound to a wheelchair.
Needless to say, he became animated both figuratively and physically when, on his first day of therapy, he was able to move his legs for the first time in four years. Wanting to help send a message that this specialized care is available to anyone, he generously agreed to let us share his story.
So what happened next?
Well, it was day two of Isaac’s physiotherapy and he was feeling good. The initial jitters of his first day of standing using parallel bars had come and gone and he was all smiles, stating,
I feel like I had a lot more control…. It’s a lot more fun today than it was yesterday!”
There was a noticeable change in his disposition as his apprehensions were beginning to fade. He was starting to believe. And for anyone that understands Isaac’s situation, believing there is hope is an incredibly powerful feeling.
His rehabilitation specialists encouraged him and made sure his posture was correct as they were eventually going to work on strengthening his core. For the time being though, Isaac was able to stand more times and for longer without getting tired, which was a noticeable difference for just 24 hours.
One thing was for sure, our patient was welcoming the possibilities of this treatment. Expressing how much he was looking forward to seeing just how far his epidural stimulator could take him, he said,
I’m pretty optimistic about the [epidural stimulation] treatment, and hopefully everything goes as smoothly as it has so far.”
