World Cerebral Palsy Day is recognised on the 6th of October and is a day dedicated to increasing awareness about Cerebral Palsy and people around the world who are affected by the condition.
Cerebral Palsy (CP) starts at an early age and is a lifelong condition with no current cure. It affects mobility and can result in impairments related to vision, hearing, speech and learning.
World Cerebral Palsy Day is an initiative that started from non-profit organisations who wanted to be the voice of people suffering from Cerebral Palsy and has the following aims:
- Increasing Awareness – many people don’t have an idea what CP is. The aim here is to create public awareness and tell people what this disorder really is, to also avoid stigmatisation of these people.
- Education – Ensuring that those with CP are accommodated when it comes to education and they have access to learning opportunities.
- Civil rights – ensuring Governments meet the needs of those affected by Cerebral Palsy
- Medical therapy – ensuring continuous medical research of CP
