Many universities and private organisations in the United States have been demonstrating over and over again how there will eventually be a medical solution for many Spinal Cord Injury cases, and research suggests that regenerative treatments might be the final answer.
In September 2016, a group of researchers from the University of California San Francisco reported that human stem cells derived from interneuron precursors helped mice suffering from Spinal Cord Injury with their bladder dysfunction. It also helped mitigate their central neuropathic pain.
During the clinical investigation carried by the UCSF earlier this autumn, human stem cells were used on a different species suffering from Spinal Cord Injury by transplanting the cells to the area of injury. After the cells were integrated into the spinal cords of the mice, and once they had differentiated into a new cell type, the amped-up nerve signals were quieted. All this caused a reduction of pain and improvement in bladder function for the mice.
Verita Neuro is aware that more mitigated neuropathic pain and improvements in bladder control are stepping stones to a higher quality of life for many Spinal Cord Injury patients. Loss of GABAergic tone in the injured spinal cord may contribute to the emergence of these symptoms and it is because of this reason that our regenerative stem cell therapies have helped many suffering from this hard condition.
The study of the UCSF also concluded that animals also showed fewer pain related symptoms and an improvement in their overall condition. Such results fill us with optimism and confirm that an approach such as this one may be of incalculable value when coming up with a medical strategy for ameliorating the harsh side effects that spinal cord injury patients are forced to bear.
Stem Cells have been used in patients suffering from Spinal Cord Injury for many years and we have been witnesses of remarkable improvements in our patients, especially in terms of regaining their sensation, suffering from fewer spasms and a reduction of nerve pain. Patients treated by Verita Neuro have also noticed improvements related to bowel and bladder function.
Furthermore, Spinal Cord Patients coming to us for treatment also benefit from our Epidural Stimulation device procedure, which is aimed at restoring voluntary mobility in the lower limbs, enabling the patients to regain control of their muscles and eventually stand up and take a few steps. The combination of this innovative procedure with stem cells delivers quicker and more effective improvements.
